Choose a spell pair
Use one low-cost Grimoire for routine rooms and one higher-impact spell for dangerous waves or boss openings. Sharing an element makes damage pickups more efficient, but covering two different ranges can be better when positioning is the run's weakness.
- Routine cast: low MP and short cooldown
- Payoff cast: spend only in a clear damage window
- Keep enough MP for the next room
Pickup order
Start with Quarterstaff and one reliable Grimoire. Solve MP with Scholar Lizard or genuine regeneration and cost-reduction pieces, then add the second spell. Take Rylie’s Pocket Watch only after the extra MP consumption is affordable, and choose the weapon endpoint after the dominant spell element is clear.
How to play it
Cast from a lane that keeps the projectile path open, use Quarterstaff reach during cooldowns and move before beginning the next cast. A spell that is ready but unsafe to cast is not uptime; preserve both MP and space.
Scholar and non-Scholar versions
Scholar Lizard can spend freely, so build damage and defense around the selected Grimoires. Other characters need Wisdom, cost reduction or regeneration before adding an expensive spell such as Meteor Shower.
When to pivot
If Grimoire support never arrives, keep only general MP and elemental pieces that still benefit Quarterstaff. Move into the Staff endpoint matching the strongest element instead of carrying isolated spell-only Artifacts.
Manual casting or Bolt Barrage?
Choose an elemental Staff that preserves manual Grimoire casting for this guide. Ilonica’s Spirit Staff instead prevents direct Grimoire casts and changes Normal Attack to Bolt Barrage. Follow the separate Infinite Elemental Bolt guide for that setup.
